MARQUESS GALLERY GOES ONLINE WITH BASEBALLFINEART.COM

ST. LOUIS, MO - December 1, 2001 - Renowned fine art photographer Don Marquess brings his baseball-themed photography to the Internet with baseballfineart.com, a website featuring his nationally-recognized photographs of baseballs.

The site makes Marquess' unique photographs available to an international audience over the World Wide Web. More than 25 of Marquess' striking baseball images are available for purchase at baseballfineart.com, where visitors can choose from cibachrome prints, posters and note cards. Framing and matting options are available through the site as well.

Marquess, who has been a been a fine art photographer for more than 25 years, took his first photographs of baseballs in 1998, inspired by St. Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire's pursuit of the major league home run record. Just four days after Marquess hung his prints, "The Balls of Summer," "Old Glory," "Patriot" and "Smokin'" in his gallery in suburban St. Louis' Plaza Frontenac, McGwire himself walked in for a visit. McGwire liked the prints and spread the word to his teammates; in the next few weeks, more than half of the Cardinals team visited the gallery and bought prints.

Since then, Marquess, a self-described "baseball maniac" since the age of eight, has become the exclusive photographer of Sammy Sosa's 66th home run ball and McGwire's 70th home run ball, and has worked on projects with Cardinals legends Lou Brock, Al Hrabosky and Jack Buck. Marquess baseball prints now hang in the homes and offices of players and front office personnel from more than 25 different Major League Baseball teams, and his baseball-themed prints, posters and cards are available in team gift shops and clubhouses across the country and at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Marquess, who uses a 35-millimeter Contax camera for all his photographs, attributes the clarity and brilliance of his images to his use of very slow 50 ASA film, and his insistence on shooting everything handheld, without a tripod, in natural light.

Since April 2000, the Marquess Gallery has been located in downtown St. Louis' historic Union Station, at 127 Union Station, 1820 Market Street, St. Louis, MO 63103.
